Is MyMemory private? How your saves are stored and used
A plain-English explanation of what MyMemory stores, who can see it, what the Chrome extension does and doesn't do, and how AI chat uses your data.

Quick answer
Your saves are private to your account unless you put them in a shared space. Data is encrypted in transit, separated per user in the database, and never sold. The Chrome extension only saves a page when you ask it to. When you use AI chat, your question and the relevant saves are sent to an AI model provider to write the answer. You can export or delete everything at any time.
A second brain holds personal things, so it's fair to ask where they go. Here's how MyMemory handles your data, without the legalese. The privacy policy is the full, binding version.
Who can see your saves
- Only you, by default. Every save belongs to your account.
- People you invite to a shared space. If you create a space and invite someone, they can see what's in that space and nothing else.
How it's protected
- Encrypted in transit with TLS between your browser and our servers.
- Separated per user in the database with row-level security, so one account's queries can't reach another's data.
- Never sold and never shared with advertisers.
What the Chrome extension does (and doesn't)
- It saves a page only when you trigger it: the toolbar button, a keyboard shortcut, or auto-save if you turn that on (it's off by default).
- It does not record your browsing history.
- Site icons in the popup come from Chrome's own local cache, so no outside service learns which sites you've saved.
- For imports from X, Reddit and Instagram, it uses the login you already have in your browser. MyMemory never asks for those passwords.
How AI chat uses your data
To answer a question, MyMemory finds the relevant saves and sends them, along with your question, to an AI model provider (for example OpenAI or Google Gemini) to write the reply. The personalization feature, which remembers your preferred name and a short summary of your interests, is on by default and can be edited or turned off under Settings → Personalization.
You can leave at any time
- Export everything (memories, spaces, chats) as JSON, CSV or Markdown from Dashboard → Export. See how to export your data.
- Delete your account from Settings.
