How to back up and search your Reddit saved posts

Reddit's saved list is hard to search and only pages back so far. Import saved posts into MyMemory to back them up and find them by meaning.

Quick answer

Sign in to reddit.com in Chrome, install the MyMemory extension, and choose Add memory → Integrations → Reddit Saved in MyMemory. Your saved posts and comments are copied into a private library where you can search them semantically, tag them, and ask AI questions about them.

Reddit's Saved tab is where good answers go to be forgotten. It has no search, it is sorted only by when you saved something, and Reddit's listing pages stop after roughly a thousand items, so your oldest saves become hard to reach at all. Copying them into MyMemory gives you a backup you control and a way to actually find things.

Before you start

  • A MyMemory account (the free plan includes 1,000 memories).
  • The MyMemory Chrome extension.
  • An active reddit.com login in the same Chrome profile. The extension uses that session; you do not share your Reddit password with MyMemory.

Import your saved posts

  1. Open mymemory.dev and sign in.
  2. Click Add memory, go to Integrations, and pick Reddit Saved.
  3. Leave the tab open. The extension reports progress as it works through your saved posts and comments, waits and retries if Reddit rate-limits it, and skips anything already imported.

Each saved post or comment becomes its own memory with a link back to the original thread.

Finding things afterwards

Search in MyMemory is hybrid: it combines vector similarity (what a post means) with full-text ranking (the exact words). That matters for Reddit, where the useful part of a thread is often a comment that never repeats the title's keywords.

Some searches that work well:

  • "that comment explaining how to negotiate a raise"
  • "home espresso grinder recommendations"
  • "self-hosting photo backup setups"

You can also ask AI chat to summarize everything you saved on a topic. Answers cite the specific memories they came from, so you can jump back to the thread.

Keep it organized

  • Tag posts with the subreddit or topic (#homelab, #career). Tags are normalized to lowercase and you can filter with AND/OR logic.
  • Put project-specific saves in a space so AI chat only draws on that context.
  • Re-run the import whenever you like; only new saves are added.

Questions people ask

Can I get back Reddit saves that no longer show in my Saved tab?

MyMemory imports what Reddit returns for your saved list. Items Reddit no longer lists cannot be recovered, which is why importing early and re-running the import periodically is the best backup strategy.
